Projector Throw Calculator

To calculate the distance a projector needs to be from its screen (the throw), you need to know two things: the width of the screen (or image you want to project), and your projector's throw ratio.

To calculate the throw distance for one of our projectors, please use the form below:

Projector Width of screen

projector throw ratio

For this, Distance = Width x Throw ratio
So for a CVP supplied NEC 3150, which has a throw ratio of 1.5 - 2,
and a projector screen 8 foot wide, the projector has to be:

dmin= 8 x 1.5 = 12
dmax = 8 x 2 = 16

between 12 and 16 foot from the screen.

The important thing to remember is that this is measured from the lens of the projector. So you also need to take into account the size of the projector itself, if calculating the space to leave behind a rear-project screen for instance.
